MBTI S and N: Sensing and Intuition

MBTI S and N show whether you trust concrete facts or linked possibilities first; both reduce communication gaps.

Two intake paths

In MBTI, S prefers verifiable facts, steps, and prior experience; N prefers patterns, meaning, and possible directions. The difference is attention, not intelligence.

The value of S

S-leaning people ask where data comes from, what happens next, and what happened last time. They turn new ideas into schedules, budgets, and executable steps.

The value of N

N-leaning people notice shared structures across situations and ask what would change under different constraints. They support exploration and prevent teams from optimizing only the old path.

Common communication gaps

Detail-first speakers may find others too abstract; direction-first speakers may find others too cautious. Translate both ways: give the conclusion and example, then the evidence and steps.

A small practice

Use three parts when discussing a plan: one sentence for the goal, three key facts, and one alternative direction. S can see evidence while N can see room to change.
